When users are professionals under pressure, every element on screen has to earn its place.

The Problem

Wind turbine operations across multiple sites generated significant data, but that data lived in fragmented systems with no standardised structure. Operators couldn't get a clear picture of turbine status, site availability, or emerging failure risks across their portfolio. By the time a problem surfaced, it was usually already costly.

AXPO is one of Europe's leading energy companies. The people using this application were infrastructure professionals making fast, accurate operational calls from incomplete information. Getting the information hierarchy right wasn't a design preference. It was a functional requirement.

The Solution

A mobile-only application that centralised wind turbine data across portfolio, site, and individual turbine levels. For the first time, cross-site analysis was possible from a single view. Real-time monitoring and early warning indicators gave operators visibility before problems became critical rather than after.

To validate the design I ran over 20 user testing sessions using eye-tracking software, which was relatively uncommon at the time. It gave us precise, objective data on where attention actually landed versus where we assumed it would. The findings directly reshaped the layout. Turbine name and energy output emerged as the two data points operators needed to read at a glance, and everything else fell into hierarchy behind them.

This was one of my earliest projects, led by Prof. Dr. Doris Agotai and a senior designer, whom I learnt some of the foundational knowledge that shaped my career.
